Color is an inseparable dimension of landscape. We often perceive changes and transformations in our surroundings through the chromatic variations that accompany them and that, at the same time, evoke diverse emotions and sensations. Color also helps to give places their character and to strengthen their collective identity. Moreover, different cultures have attributed multiple meanings to colors, meanings that have changed over time. How does all this shape the way we relate to everyday landscapes? How can we incorporate color more consciously and effectively into landscape interventions? And what contribution can the world of art make?

This book, which has its origin in the seminar “El paisatge i el color. Percepció, significats i intervenció” (Landscape and Color. Perception, Meanings and Intervention), organized by the Landscape Observatory of Catalonia with the collaboration and valuable support of Bòlit, Centre for Contemporary Art, in April 2024, seeks to delve into the role of color in the perception, management and intervention of landscape, and to offer new perspectives and elements for debate on this subject.
