Course 'Paisatge urbà i perspectiva local. Valorització i intervenció en el paisatge en escales intermèdies'

Landscape has a growing interest and presence in society and public policies, and is increasingly seen as a way to increase the well-being and quality of life of people living in urban environments. In recent decades, the towns and cities of the Barcelona region have undergone very relevant territorial transformations, the result of intense dynamics of urbanization, metropolitanization and globalization, especially at intermediate scales. The result is today's everyday landscapes, which we must know how to value and intervene in appropriately, based on the recognition and activation of their values (in transformation, rather than static forms and images).

Few terms have such a broad meaning as landscape and are so used from such diverse areas, or from different professional groups, and also by citizens. And this is because landscape is a particularly rich, complex and integrative concept of many perspectives: heritage, economic development, health, social cohesion, or identity, among many others. Therefore, landscape policies and tools offer an alternative way of looking at and managing urban landscapes in terms of improving urban quality, the well-being of citizens, and the promotion and dynamization of local areas.

To understand the logic of contemporary urban landscapes, to organize them and to act on them appropriately, very varied perspectives and very diverse actors are needed. The aim of this course, organized by the Management of Equipment Services, Urban Infrastructures and Architectural Heritage of the Barcelona Provincial Council and the Landscape Observatory of Catalonia, is to explore through cases, tools and methodologies, and from a local perspective, new forms of management, organization and treatment of urban landscapes in the Barcelona region.
