Hydroelectric energy has played a key role in the industrialization of the country. For producing territories, such as the Pyrenees, it represented the greatest socioeconomic transformation of the last hundred years and left an extraordinary mark on the landscape.
The great symbolic power that hydroelectric infrastructures have today in the Catalan territory invites us to talk about what are the new images and meanings that these landscapes transmit to us, how they are currently leading towards an accelerated process of patrimonialization, or how they are becoming a key element of territorial dynamization. Not only because of the industrial value of the engineering work, but also because they are elements that are protagonists, dominant, of a landscape - the energy one - that is gradually emerging as a new landscape of reference in our country.
