Description:

L'Olivera is a cooperative that promotes social integration and produces organic wine and oil. It employs people with learning difficulties, mainly psychiatric disabilities, who are actively involved in the whole production process. The cooperative conducts the production, transformation and selling processes. Many of the production techniques used are manual, generating produce of excellence. Farming at the cooperative uses environmentally friendly processes, and it has enabled some of the agricultural landscape near the town centre of Vallbona de les Monges (Urgell) to be maintained, while promoting elements of the agricultural landscape that are characteristic of the area (dry stone walls, indigenous crops, and so on), and playing a significant social role. In 2010, the project was extended to a peri-urban setting to include running the Barcelona City Council owned estate on the north-facing slope of the Collserola mountain range, where City Council wine is produced in a replication of the Vallbona de les Monges social project.
