Description:

The Fondazione Benetton Studi Ricerche, an Italian foundation dedicated to landscape study, management and design, has been organising the Luoghi di Valore initiative since 2006. Inspired by the principles of the European Landscape Convention, Luoghi di Valore examines the link between the people of a community and its landscapes, while also promoting awareness of the need for everyone to get involved in preserving and managing the landscape, regardless of their social or cultural origins. It is a yearly call that asks the population of the province of Treviso to describe the parts of the local geography that they think have value, provide photographs of them and explain why they are important. The idea is not solely to identify pretty places, but also those that are important to the population and have symbolic and emotional meaning. The material received is displayed publicly and different informational and discussion sessions are held. The initiative has aroused great interest, as demonstrated by the many people participating every year in the calls, exhibitions and related sessions.
